Introduction
Self-care is a commonly talked about term, but care that we sometimes struggle to enact. We often talk about self-care as a remedy for vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burn out. But what are these stressors and are they different? What makes us vulnerable to fatigue, stress and burnout and what are the indications we are being impacted?
This workshop will explore the personal impacts of caring for young people with trauma, and how we can tune into the warning signs that things are becoming too much. We will explore the Healthy Mind Platter approach to looking after ourselves and provide guidance on developing a self-care plan that adapts to our own strengths and challenges.
About the facilitator:
Belinda Lorek is a social worker, who is the Senior Manager, Practice Leadership and Development at the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care. Belinda has worked for over twenty years in direct practice, as well as in projects and policy development for children and young people in residential care and youth justice facilities. She has worked as an advocate for children and young people, to build their capacity to self-advocate and challenge the systems that impact on their lives.
